Finally, a better shopping experience is coming to Instagram.
Instagram recently announced that it’ll integrate a feature allowing customers to shop products directly from a brand’s Instagram feed. This move is revolutionary. It’ll help solve one of the biggest Instagram questions for eCommerce businesses – how can I get ROI and sales from the items I post on Instagram?
Instagram has changed the entire ball field for marketing. If your business isn’t using Instagram, you’re missing out a big audience. When it comes to Instagram, marketing and eCommerce, everyone recommends using Instagram as the number one platform. Instagram not only drives sales, but also serves to build an audience and engage with your customers. Why? Instagram has over 400 million daily active users and has the highest engagement rate out of all the existing social media platforms.
According to an Instagram study, “60% of [the users] say they learn about products and services on the app, while 75% say they take actions like visiting sites, searching or telling a friend after being influenced by a post.”
Instagram is proven to be a phenomenal platform for discovering new products and brands, but things get a little tricky if you wanted to purchase a product directly.
As of right now, converting a follower into a paying customer on Instagram is quite challenging. This is particularly due to the limitation of links — you are only allowed to have one on your profile. If a customer is interested in an item posted on your Instagram feed, he or she has to then go to your website and search for it. Hopefully, the customer knows the product name to easily find the item, but that shopping process in itself is anti-intuitive and inconvenient.
Good news is Instagram is improving its in-app shopping experience soon.
The company plans to have Instagram shopping built right into the app. Once the brands post a picture on Instagram, they can tag up to 5 product items per post. Each tag will display the product’s name and price. When you click on the tagged item, it’ll open the product description displaying size, color, fabric, etc, with an option to add the item to your cart and checkout. This entire process will stay within the Instagram app, which creates a seamless checkout experience for buyers. Some brands, like Kate Spade and Warby Parker, are already testing Instagram’s new shopping feature. We can expect to see more brands capitalizing on this new sales channel as soon as Instagram rolls out the feature officially.
There are a few current Instagram shopping plugins we recommend to our clients in the meantime. These Instagram shopping tools are directly embedded into the app itself and essentially make it easier for customers to make a purchase. Yotpo designed a popular Instagram widget that provides a “shoppable link” on your Instagram profile. When a customer wishes to purchase an item shown on your feed, he or she can click the link to find your products in a shoppable Instagram web page. It’ll provide the customer an option to “buy now” and take care of the checkout for you.
Foursixty is another great Instagram shopping plugin. It turns your Instagram content into a shoppable gallery within your store’s website, with other awesome features to schedule your posts and showcase your user-generated content.
Instagram shopping is the future of mobile eCommerce. If you’re not already on Instagram, you’re missing out on a great sales opportunity.

Amazon is by far the most dominant and successful eCommerce retailer to date. Walmart has been trying to compete with the online retail giant with different tactics, but Amazon still consistently outranks all the eCommerce stores. Everyone already knows the Amazon legend, so let’s talk about other successful online stores. Today, we want to share 5 top eCommerce stores that are killing it besides Amazon.
Many fashion retailers are struggling with sales, but not ASOS. The British online fashion and beauty retailer has been a huge hit since its establishment in 2000. When other fashion brands and department stores offer endless discounts and close physical stores to remain in business, ASOS has only gained popularity and love from consumers.
ASOS had a very clear branding image from its early days. Its color coordination with the 3 banners always makes important messages stand out when you first land on the homepage. The navigation for different categories is easy for you to find something you need with very few clicks. ASOS also offers 360 view for products. In some cases, you can also view a model wearing the clothing item walking down a runway, which gives you a much better idea of how it looks on a person. With other things like free shipping and student discount, ASOS has attracted buyers from all over the world.
You may have seen Simply Gum at Whole Foods Market’s checkout aisles. It’s very eye-catching because the packaging is strikingly different from traditional chewing gum. The minimal design with just an image of the flavor’s ingredient transforms chewing gum into an interesting product.
Simply Gum’s website is consistent with its branding – clean and bold. The infinite scroll on the homepage unfolds the brand story clearly. As soon as you scroll down from the landing page that says “natural chewing gum”, the company tells you what makes the product natural with a breakdown of ingredients and their images. The website creates a pleasant consumer experience that’s coherent with the product.
Have you seen Tattly’s beautiful video ads on Facebook? They feature beautiful aesthetics and demonstrate how the product works. The Brooklyn-based company sells temporary tattoos that are fun and stylish — not the cheap, low-quality tattoos that children play around with. How do we know that? Tattly shows the results in its video ads and pictures on the website, making sure you have the confidence to purchase a good quality product.
Bonus: they also glam up your shipping order with confetti.
Consistently praised as the best iPad stylus, FiftyThree Pencil is a well-loved product with elegant design. Its Bluetooth stylus with different brush tools has scored stunning reviews from all over the internet and on Amazon. The website is a simple scroll as well, with demonstration video available on the homepage. FiftyThree’s clean webpage design echoes the sleek design of its product. It’s definitely one of the most successful eCommerce stores in its industry.
Ordering ice cream online is no longer a dream. Jeni’s Ice Cream, originally from Ohio, is known for its quirky flavors like churro, cocoa curry, and gooey butter cake. If you don’t live in the areas where Jeni’s stores are located, you can order online with “guaranteed frozen delivery”. Ice cream delivery already sounds unreal as it is, but you’ll be even more amazed when you look at the website’s product images. Each flavor is presented in a spoonful of that particular ice cream – you can almost taste it from just looking at the picture.
Jeni’s website also features a blog with dessert recipes, flavor updates, and intriguing stories.
As much as social media is taking a prominent presence in the digital marketing sphere, SEO is here to stay. Think about your own shopping habits — when you need to purchase something, do you usually search on Google or other search engines? 61% of consumers actually research on a product by looking it up on search engines before they make the purchase. This means search engine optimization is critical for your eCommerce business as it remains the largest channel for website traffic.
SEO can seem very daunting especially when you don’t know what to focus on. Here are 5 eCommerce SEO practices that we find useful for our clients.
Take Advantage of Google Tools
Google provides many free SEO tools that can get you started.
Google’s Keyword Planner can give you an idea of what keywords are being searched. Think in terms of what your clients would search if they needed your product. Put those keywords in the Keyword Planner. It’ll generate relevant keywords and phrases and show you how much they’re being searched on the platform. You can determine which keywords you want to rank for and lay out the SEO framework from there.
Another useful one is Google Webmaster Tool, which you can use to check duplicate content and 404/500 errors. You can also check which one of your pages is performing well.
After monitoring and analyzing your data and keywords, take actions to optimize your online store’s pages for those keywords.
Make sure you’re using H1 tag for your page’s headline and that it includes the page’s keyword. Don’t forget to write a compelling meta description that also includes the keyword and keep it under 150 characters. You should also include the keyword in your page URL. However, try to incorporate the keyword naturally into your sentences – make them sound human!
Optimize Your Images
Written content is important but don’t neglect your product images. You’ll also want to optimize the file names and the ALT text of your images. The title and the ALT text should describe what the images are so that search engines can understand them.
The ALT text also comes in handy if your images fail to load correctly on a user’s screen because it shows up in replacement of the image.
Social Media Integration
Online SEO and social media influence each other. Set up your business on social media platforms like Facebook, Google+, and Twitter. If your business is very heavy on using images, Pinterest and Instagram can great platforms for you as well.
Optimizing your website by linking it to your social media posts and campaigns can increase your search ranking. Allowing people to share your product or blog content on social media can also increase traffic.
Make Sure Your Website is Mobile-Friendly
In 2016, Google started to index mobile websites as the volume of mobile searches has surpassed that of desktop searches. If your mobile website is deemed as mobile-friendly by Google, it’ll boost both of your desktop and mobile rankings.
Ensure your website theme is mobile responsive and that it displays correctly across different devices and screen sizes. Your web content should be readable without having to zoom in or scroll horizontally. The links should be easily clickable as well.

For eCommerce businesses, checkout is the last step in scoring a sale. No one wants to lose a customer at that last moment because of an unreliable payment gateway. If you don’t offer multiple secure payment methods, you risk losing many potential sales. In fact, 50% of regular online shoppers would cancel their purchase if their preferred payment method wasn’t available at checkout.
With dozens of payment processing services available, which one should you use for your online store? Our web development team at DigitlHaus has recommended three payment gateways – Paypal, Authorize.net, and Chase Paymentech.
Most of us have used PayPal for our online shopping at some point, especially when PayPal was still a subsidiary of eBay. PayPal was and still is the most widely used payment method on eBay, but now it’s grown into a worldwide online payment system that facilitates over $200 billion worth of transaction each year.
PayPal has over 188 million users worldwide. Over 340,000 websites use PayPal as one of their payment processing methods. PayPal’s popularity has already well established itself at a trusted payment platform. This payment gateway doesn’t require any startup costs or monthly fees and accepts all major credit cards. In the United States, PayPal charges the business owners a flat fee of 2.9% of the transaction amount for online purchases.
Authorize.net is one of the most widely used payment gateways servicing over 400,000 merchants worldwide. This payment processing service has a user-friendly interface and allows you to tweak security settings at different levels. It provides a seamless integration to many eCommerce platforms like Magento, Volusion, BigCommerce, and Shopify.
It accepts all major credit cards and electronic checks. It offers fraud protection services and simple checkout options like most gateways. If you choose to use Authorize.net, you need to pay a $49 setup fee and a $29 monthly fee. Each transaction fee costs 2.9% + $0.30.
One thing to keep in mind, though, is Authorize.net’s lack of data portability. If you ever want to switch to another payment processing service, you’ll have a very hard time transferring your customer data to another platform. If you’ve built a large volume of customer contacts and payment method information, you’ll have to re-input everything manually.
Chase Paymentech – Orbital Payment Gateway
Chase introduced its Chase Paymentech’s Orbital Payment Gateway in 2001 and has been growing ever since. Because of the enormous resources available from its parent company, the gateway is backed by a team of security and data protection experts. Orbital Payment Gateway offers customer profile management that stores customer data via tokenization, helping businesses to fulfill PCI compliance and protecting data in transit and at rest.
Orbital also offers a lower transaction processing fee at 1.65% + $0.25 along with a $9.95 monthly fee. It’s a solution for businesses that are looking to lower the processing cost. However, a contract agreement with Chase Paymentech can sometimes result in a high cancellation fee if you decide to stop using the service before the contract ends. Now, the company offers a month-to-month contract that serves an alternative for businesses who don’t want to make long term commitment.

Are you familiar with Yotpo, the award-winning marketing platform for user-generated content (UGC) and reviews? Yotpo takes your marketing strategy to the next step by encouraging customers to leave product reviews. The app then uses the best reviews to help generate website traffic and boost sales for your e-commerce store. Best news? DigitlHaus is now partners with Yotpo and we can be a part of your marketing strategy as well.
Why Does eCommerce Reviews Matter?
Genuine and positive customer reviews are important for any eCommerce business. When you shop online, there’s no way for you to verify a product’s quality before you make the purchase. Some businesses offer 30-day guaranteed returns or product trials to earn confidence from their potential buyers, but these methods can be very costly and ineffective. eCommerce reviews, though, are free word-of-mouth advertising that can effectively drive sales and traffic. According to the Local Consumer Review Survey, 84% of consumers trust product reviews as much as personal recommendations. Product reviews and star ratings act as a virtual social proof that informs online consumers and helps them decide on a purchase.
How Do You Generate Reviews for Your eCommerce Business?
Yotpo is exactly the app you need. The app itself has consistent 5-star reviews across many eCommerce platforms like BigCommerce and Shopify. It collects every single user-generated content beyond just product reviews, including customer photos and Q&As. Once Yotpo acquires and analyzes the UGC, it displays the best-collected content on and off site to build consumer confidence and convert it into sales.
You can integrate Yotpo’s plugin into Shopify, Magento, BigCommerce, or WooCommerce. The setup only takes a few minutes and you can try out the basic features for free before you commit to a paid package.
What Else Can Yotpo Do for You?
Yotpo offers full social integration to all the major social media platforms – Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and Twitter. Its algorithm can choose the best reviews to share on your social media pages to increase conversion rate, boost SEO, and drive more traffic. Paid ads with positive reviews on Facebook and Instagram can increase your click-through-rate (CTR) by a whopping 300%! Yotpo can also integrate your review data and star ratings into paid Google ads and product listing.
To measure the effectiveness of your UGC, Yotpo has a full analytics suite that creates comprehensive reports on conversions, content, and optimization practices. It clearly shows you what’s working and what needs improvement. The app is so popular among eCommerce owners because it has every aspect of online marketing covered.
